IIT Jammu among 38 prestigious institutes in country to grant PMRF scheme

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu has been included among the prestigious 38 institutes across the country for granting Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme for it students pursuing various courses in the Jagti Campus at Nagrota.

PMRF Scheme has been designed for improving the quality of research in various higher educational institutions in the country. With attractive fellowships, the scheme seeks to attract the best talent

into research thereby realizing the vision of development through innovation. Recently, the Union Human Resource Development Ministry had announced some relaxations for the students.

The scheme was announced in the Budget 2018-19. The institutes that can offer PMRF include all the IITs, all the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), Indian Institute of Science

(IISc), Bengaluru and some of the top Central Universities/National Institutes of Technology (IITs) that offer science and/or technology degrees.

The candidates of IIT Jammu will be selected through a rigorous selection process and their performance will be reviewed suitably through a national convention.

Apart from IIT Jammu, other institutes granting PMRF are IIT Bhilai, IIT BHU, IIT Bhubaneshwar, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT  Dharwad, IIT (ISM)  Dhanbad, IIT Gandhi Nagar, IIT Gandhi Nagar (Gujarat), IIT Goa,  IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Mandi, IIT Patna, IIT Roorke, IIT Ropar, IIT Palakkad, IIT TirupatiAligarh Muslim Univeristy (AMU), Banaras Hindu University, Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthampuram, Tirupati, IISc Bangalore, , Jamia Milia Islamia, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, NIT Tiruchirappali, University of Delhi and University of Hyderabad.

Sources said the IIT Jammu recently started online classes for its students through Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure that there will be no further academic loss due to ongoing lockdown amid deadly COVID-19 outbreak. All classes and examination had already been suspended till further orders in view of the critical situation emerging through fatal pandemic.
