IIT-Jammu suspends classes, examinations

Sensing the gravity of the prevailing situation due to coronavirus scare in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jammu, has suspended all classes and examinations at the campus with immediate effect until March 21.

“Those students who wish to stay at hostels will be allowed to stay. Basic mess facilities shall continue to be available. They should follow all instructions for hygiene and take all necessary precautions by following advisories issued by various quarters from time to time to avoid unnecessary contact with each other. The students who have not yet returned from the mid-term break are advised to stay put,” a latest advisory of IIT-Jammu said.

“We will be regularly reviewing the situation closely on a daily basis and shall keep you posted via our different channels. You should not worry at all. On March 11, an advisory was issued by the institute where it was mentioned that the classes would resume as scheduled and if there was any change it would be intimated immediately.

Commodore Naresh Kumar (retd), OSD at IIT-Jammu, told The Tribune, “As a precautionary measure, the classes and examination have been suspended till March 21”. When asked about the possibility of resumption of academic activities in the campus after March 21, he replied, “After March 21, the authorities will first review the situation and then any decision will be taken”.
