Implement Mandal panel report, Altaf Bukhari urges PM Modi ahead of J&K visit
Jammu, April 15
Apni Party president Syed Mohammed Altaf Bukhari today appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement the Mandal Commission report in favour of the Other Backward Class (OBC) community and regularise all daily wagers in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a one-day OBC Community’s Active Workers Convention in Bishnah, Jammu, Bukhari hoped that during his visit to Samba district on April 24, PM Modi would announce the implementation of the Mandal Commission Report in favour of the OBC under which they would be able to get 27 per cent reservation in J&K like the rest of the states/UTs in the country.
“This reservation has been denied to the OBC people in J&K for decades and the various political parties used this community as a vote bank but did not fulfil their promises,” said Bukhari.
“Has anything changed in these years in Jammu?” he said. “Nothing has changed despite direct rule of the BJP in J&K,” he said, adding the development was nowhere on the ground and the political party had failed to deliver.
He said unscheduled power cuts had increased up to 16 hours in Jammu during summers and it was causing great inconvenience to the people.
“Similarly, the government has not been able to handle the growing unemployment in J&K. The issues of over one lakh daily wagers still remain unaddressed and hoped that their demand for regularisation would be accepted during the visit of the PM,” he said.
