In Brief: Bear mauls man to death in Ramban, teen injured

Banihal/Jammu: A 48-year-old man was killed and a teenager injured in a bear attack in the upper reaches of Ramban district, officials said on Monday. The incident took place when the pair was grazing their cattle in the Autootop area of Ukhral Pogal Paristan subdivision late on Sunday. Nazir Ahmed Malik died on the spot while 15-year-old Reyaz Ahmed Gorsi was admitted to a hospital, they said. Reyaz is undergoing treatment and his condition is stable, the officials said. Malik’s body was sent for post-mortem. Wildlife range officer Hukum Singh said two teams were sent to the area. Compensation will be provided to the kin of both, he said. PTI

Two suspected terrorists arrested in Pulwama

Srinagar: Security forces have arrested two suspected terrorists from Awantipora area of Pulwama district, officials said on Monday. Zubair Ahmad and Hijaz Nazir were arrested during an anti-terror operation in Awantipora area, they said. Two pistols and other incriminating material were recovered from the possession of the arrested duo. The arrests come on the eve of the fifth anniversary of abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir within the Indian Union. PTI

Intruder’s body handed over to Pakistani Rangers

Jammu: Body of an intruder, who was recently shot dead by the BSF while attempting to illegally sneak into India, was repatriated to Pakistan along the International Border here on Monday, officials said. The unarmed intruder was gunned down after he ignored repeated warnings and attempted to cross the border fence through the Khora border outpost in the Samba district on the night of July 31. The deceased was identified as Pakistani national Muhammad Affial, a resident of the Punjab province, the officials said. The body was returned to Pakistani Rangers by the BSF at border outpost Octroi in the Suchetgarh sector of the Jammu district, the officials said. PTI
