Indus river cleanliness drive begins in Khaltse

In line with the decision of the Leh Hill Council, a cleanliness drive along the Indus river was launched in Khaltse sub division.

The programme began with a briefing on the importance of the initiative, followed by the felicitation of workers and drivers engaged under SRMC. They were honoured with traditional ‘Khatags’ and incentives from the sub divisional administration, Khaltse, in recognition of their services.

The cleanliness rally commenced from the SDM Office, Khaltse, covering various stretches along the Indus river within the sub division. At the headquarters, Lamberdar of Khaltse, Stanzin Phurboo, along with personnel from the GREF and Army, were present. Specific areas were assigned to respective teams, and the drive was simultaneously conducted along the Indus in every village of the sub division. Addressing the gathering, Khaltse Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mohd Sharif highlighted the objectives of the cleanliness drive. He urged all participants to maintain cleanliness along the riverbanks beyond the duration of the drive, stressing that safeguarding the river’s environment is a collective responsibility. The event saw active participation from all sub divisional officers and officials, and personnel from the Army and GREF. The programme concluded with participants taking a pledge to protect and preserve the cleanliness of the Indus river.
