He also asked the IMD to come out with dedicated district-wise forecasts for J&K, HP, Uttarakhand and Punjab.

The minister directed Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, M Ravichandran, and IMD DG M Mohapatra to maintain round-the-clock monitoring of weather patterns and provide timely forecasts to minimise losses through early warning.

Singh gave these instructions while convening a review meeting with the Jammu Divisional Commissioner and DCs of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Kathua and Udhampur districts via video conferencing to take stock of the relief and rehabilitation measures being undertaken in the wake of unprecedented rainfall, cloudbursts and flashfloods in the region.

The minister said special focus had been laid on ensuring potable drinking water through supply of water filters and essential medical kits to prevent any outbreak of water-borne diseases.
