International Snow Leopard Day celebrated in Leh
A 23-minute nature walk organised from Khaltse to Skindyang, highlighting the importance of conserving the vulnerable Snow Leopard
The Forest Range Office, Khaltse, Leh district, in collaboration with students of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Khaltse, celebrated International Snow Leopard Day with enthusiasm and a series of awareness activities. To mark the occasion, a 23-minute nature walk was organised from Khaltse to Skindyang, highlighting the importance of conserving the vulnerable Snow Leopard — the state animal of Ladakh and an iconic symbol of the region’s rich biodiversity.
An official spokesperson said, “The walk aimed to raise awareness among the local community, especially the youth, about the crucial role they play in preserving Ladakh’s unique wildlife heritage.” Speaking on the occasion, officials from the Forest Range office emphasised on the need for the community participation in wildlife protection. They encouraged students to become ambassadors of environmental conservation. The event concluded with a brief session, during which forest officials delivered a lecture on the importance of protecting wildlife and the fragile mountain ecosystem of Ladakh.
