Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid on Thursday said that following Asr prayers, authorities allegedly closed the gates of Jamia Masjid Srinagar and police personnel asked worshippers to vacate the mosque premises. A statement by Anjuman stated that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was expected to lead the prayers at the mosque, was also placed under house arrest earlier this morning.

Meanwhile, CM Omar Abdullah in a post on X said, “It is very unfortunate that the security establishment has taken the decision to seal the historic Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, on one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar – Shab-e-Baraat.”
