Jammu airport first to get 4-star GRIHA rating

The terminal building at the Jammu Airport has been awarded the 4-star GRIHA rating, at a function organised in New Delhi.

The Jammu Airport has become the first Airport in India to achieve the four-star rating in the existing building category of GRIHA (green rating for integrated habitat assessment).

The award was received by Anuj Aggarwal, member, in New Delhi (HR).

The Airports Authority of India had participated as a government partner at the 11th GRIHA Summit 2019 organised at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on Wednesday with the theme ‘Approach to integrated sustainability’.

Dr PR Beuria, Airport Director, Jammu, stated that it was a proud moment for the Jammu Airport. He also congratulated the AAI team of engineers along with the M/s Kapahi Construction Company of Jammu.

The present terminal building which bagged the award has reduced annual energy consumption compared to the GRIHA benchmark by the use of energy efficient electrical and mechanical equipment, reduced annual water consumption by more than 50 per cent over the GRIHA benchmark, more than 50 per cent of the regularly occupied habitable spaces are well day lit reducing the artificial lighting electricity consumption, appropriate solid waste management, eco-friendly waste water treatment system- soil biotechnology, efficient building envelops lowering the overall solar heat gain or loss in the building lowering the cooling and heating load, rain water harvesting, low polluting building interior finishes, HCFC & CFC free HVAC refrigerant and insulation and eco-friendly housekeeping materials with no health hazard.
