Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar chaired a meeting to review the status of desilting and maintenance works of irrigation canals in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts.
Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation; Deputy Commissioners of Jammu, Samba and Kathua; Director, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Jammu; Chief Engineers of Irrigation & Flood Control, Jammu, Ravi Tawi Irrigation Canal, Jammu, and other officers concerned attended the meeting.
The Divisional Commissioner took stock of the de-silting works being executed in the Ranbir Canal and Ravi Tawi irrigation canals. He sought the details of the completed and ongoing works for cleaning and maintenance of the irrigation canals from the officials concerned.
The Divisional Commissioner exhorted the officials of the executing agencies for timely and quality cleaning of the canals.
Reviewing the works being executed by the department of Irrigation and Flood Control, the Divisional Commissioner stressed on proper transportation and disposal of silt, sludge, waste material retrieved during the de-silting of the canals.
He directed the chief engineers to collaborate with district administrations for ensuring that the irrigation water reaches the tail ends of the canals and farmers don’t face any kind of issue for irrigation.
Kumar directed the deputy commissioners for proper monitoring of the de-silting and maintenance works of the irrigation canals. He also directed the officials for conducting awareness activities, enforcement drive to sensitise the people for keeping the canals clean and not dumping waste or plastic into the canals.
JMC Commissioner Rahul Yadav apprised the Divisional Commissioner on the beautification and sanitation works executed on the banks of Tawi Canal.
