Jammu playwright gets production award

Six best plays were shortlisted by the Sahitya Kala Parishad for the presentation into which Vikram Sharma’s ‘Ardhkavya’ was the first entry of a playwright from Jammu.

A theatre play from Jammu that got the honour to be selected for the production award at the ‘ Bhartendu Natya Utsav-2019 ‘ was held at Little Theatre Group, New Delhi.

Written by Vikram Sharma and directed by Delhi-based director Kajal Suri, the play ‘Ardhkavya’ got a standing ovation from the audience that included participation of high-profile theatre playwrights, directors and actors from across India.

The story was based on a stark tragedy of wilting human lives and has a central character who finds his pastime and professional ethics at loggerheads. A sense of realisation of another dimension breathing in him leads to unfolding of certain ghastly truths of life which ruins the whole family.

The playwright and the director of the play were honoured with a plaque of ‘Bhartendu Natya Utsav’ by playwright Partap Sehgal, recipient of the best playwright award by the Sahitya Kala Parishad.“It was an effective presentation of a good play by the playwright from Jammu,” said Sehgal while addressing the audience.

Kajal Suri, Gaurav Devgan, Rajiv Maini and Drishti Sharma, all Delhi actors produced finest performances as different characters in the play which was performed on the backdrop of a huge and magnificent set. Sunil Chauhan from Dramaturgy Theatre Group operated on lights while Vineet Balain gave music.
