Jammu-Srinagar NH reopens partially after road collapse
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH) was partially restored for vehicular movement on Monday after it remained closed due to major damage to the road in Ramban district.
The critical road link was blocked following a road collapse at Marog in Ramban, which led to the suspension of traffic on the highway.
Until 1.30 pm on Monday, traffic was completely halted in both directions—from Srinagar and Jammu. However, later in the day, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) were allowed to pass from both sides in order to ease congestion.
Long queues of trucks and other vehicles were seen along the highway, which is essential for transporting goods and supplies to the Kashmir valley.
“LMVs have been allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NH. However, HMVs will be allowed to move from the Valley towards Jammu after assessing the traffic situation and road conditions,” said a traffic police official.
The disruption was caused after a major portion of the adjoining mountain collapsed onto the highway on Sunday evening, prompting an immediate halt to traffic.
