Jammu station security up after pigeon caught with threat note

Security at the Jammu railway station was further strengthened after a pigeon — bearing a chit threatening an IED attack — was captured from the border area of RS Pura.

The security forces captured the pigeon that was bearing a paper chit in which a message to blow up the Jammu railway station was written. The pigeon is believed to have entered the Indian side on August 18 after which it was reportedly captured by the Border Security Force (BSF) and then handed over to the police after the note was found on its leg.

Sources in the Police Department informed that after the chit was recovered from the pigeon, the security at the railway station was strengthened. This is despite the fact that the Jammu railway station is already considered to be a sensitive zone and has security forces personnel deployed inside and outside the premises.

The paper chit constituted of three columns in which the message was written in Urdu and English. The police have so far not confirmed whether it was a handiwork of a terror organisation or a mischief by someone. “However, the security forces are taking no chances and security has been beefed up at the railway station. Dog squads and bomb disposal teams have been deployed with the local police on high alert,” officials informed.

Jammu railway station has witnessed terror attacks in the past in which many people were killed.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a suspected quadcopter entered into the Indian territory in Gajansoo area near the Indo-Pak border in Jammu. A search operation was launched, but nothing was found till Thursday evening.
