BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav today said the J&K administration would take a call on the release of political leaders and restoration of broadband services in Kashmir valley.

“It is an ongoing process and so many people have been released, some from house arrest and some from preventive detention….the administration based on security assessment will take appropriate action from time to time,” Madhav told mediapersons here in reply to a question over the release of political leaders that have been in detention since August 5 in the wake of abrogation of Article 370.

The BJP national general secretary said he was here to watch the I-League match between Real Kashmir Football Club and Chennai City Football Club.

On the restoration of Internet service that has been suspended since August 5, Madhav said: “We are expecting things to be restored slowly”. He said he had no information on introducing laws to protect land rights of the people of J&K.

Asserting that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) had no connection with the National Register of Citizens (NRC), Madhav blamed the Opposition besides communal forces for spreading misinformation in this regard.

“The Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed by Parliament but misinformation was spread to provoke people. But, I want to tell the people that law is not against anyone or Muslims….it is just against the refugees that do not have citizenship. Even (singer) Adnan Sami got the Indian citizenship. People should not pay heed to misinformation of the Opposition and communal forces,” he said.

“The National Population Register (NPR) is an extension of the Census exercise to collect demographic data. This is about updating the data and has got nothing to do with citizenship. There is a conspiracy to create unrest in the country….the CAA has got nothing to do with NRC….Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) has clarified that no discussion has taken place so it is premature to comment how the NRC will be conducted,” Madhav added.

He said the Centre was in touch with the J&K administration to ensure better electricity supply in the union territory.
