The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was on Friday adjourned sine die by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, marking the conclusion of the session that began last week.
A spokesperson said that during the concluding sitting, legislators reflected on the proceedings, expressed satisfaction over the conduct of business, and reaffirmed their commitment to public welfare.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather invited Members of the House to share their views, in line with the customary practice on the final day of each session. Expressing happiness over the smooth proceedings, he thanked members for their constructive participation in legislative discussions.
“I thank all members of the House for playing their part in conducting the proceedings smoothly and for their constructive participation in legislative discussions,” the Speaker said.
Minister for Health, Education and Social Welfare, Sakeena Itoo, congratulated the Speaker for conducting the House in a fair and non-partisan manner. She thanked the opposition for effectively holding the government accountable and appreciated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his active engagement and prompt responses to members’ queries.
She also assured that all replies presented in the House were prepared after due consideration to ensure satisfactory responses.
CPM MLA MY Tarigami thanked all members and Assembly staff for their cooperation in making the session productive. He suggested that future sessions be held for longer durations to allow adequate time for legislators to raise issues of public importance.
Congress MLA Nizamuddin Bhat emphasised the need to uphold the dignity of the House, noting that every member made sincere efforts to fulfill their responsibilities.
BJP MLA Surjit Singh Slathia expressed gratitude to the Speaker for efficiently conducting the proceedings and giving every member an opportunity to participate. He acknowledged that while differences and heated exchanges are part of democratic debate, legislators must maintain decorum and avoid remarks that may hurt sentiments.
NC MLA Mubarak Gul expressed satisfaction over the session’s productivity, noting that members raised key public issues through Calling Attention Motions, Question Hour and Zero Hour. He urged that the discussions and suggestions from the session be translated into concrete actions for the public good.
PDP MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para appreciated the Speaker for accommodating diverse viewpoints and ensuring that all voices were heard. He remarked that while institutions may face challenges, the Assembly remains a vital platform for elected representatives to voice the concerns of the people.
