Jammu, February 19

To ensure smooth distribution of free school uniform to students Class I to VIII of government schools according to their size number, the J&K Samagar Shiksha has devised a new strategy. The Tribune carried a story in February 18 edition mentioning that due to difference in size, the school uniform remained undistributed among students.

The Project Director of J&K Samagra Shiksha, Dr Arun Manhas, told The Tribune “At times, there is a delay in providing school uniform to students of government schools in different zones across J&K but at the same time we are working to sort out this issue. As far as non-distribution of uniform to the students is concerned, the same are being provided to the Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) concerned of different districts who further send it to the schools in different zones”.

“When the uniforms are dispatched to the government schools by the ZEOs, not much care is taken regarding the size of the uniforms like 24, 26, 28,30 etc. To overcome this, there will a mention of the particular school in future on each bag carrying the school uniform and the exact size of the uniform to be distributed among students. All ZEOs will be instructed to follow this practice so that there will be no problem in distribution of uniforms to the students”, Dr Arun Manhas said.

When asked about the non-distribution of uniforms to the students of government schools, the Project Director said, “The school uniforms as per order received from the districts have already been supplied by the J&K Handloom Corporation to the ZEOs concerned in every district of J&K to further provide them to the schools. There is sometimes delay by ZEO office due to some reasons which we will try to find out”. The J&K Samagra Shiksha also provided an updated data about the demand of uniforms for boys and girls as per supply order by the government schools in 20 districts in the J&K UT.
