The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday said it had approved a proposal to advertise 575 posts of 10 2 lecturers in 24 streams in the School Education Department under direct quota.

A spokesperson said the decision had been taken “in line with the commitment of the Omar Abdullah-led government to provide jobs to unemployed educated youth of Jammu and Kashmir.” The proposal to advertise the posts had been approved by the Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Masood.

“These posts, vacant for the past several years, have been referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) for recruitment on a fast-track basis to address the pressing need of qualified teaching staff in higher secondary institutions,” the spokesperson said.

Masood said, “Within 15 days of the formation of our government, we have taken a decision to address the long-pending demands of the UT’s educated youth. The recruitment process will begin shortly and an agency has been tasked with completing the process in a time-bound manner.”

The minister noted that other departments had also been asked to consolidate the number of vacant posts, both gazetted and non-gazetted, so that the recruiting agencies could be told to fill these at the earliest.
