J&K L-G Sinha chairs Unified HQ meet, orders precise, intel-led operations
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha chaired a Unified Headquarters (UHQ) meeting on Tuesday and directed security agencies to conduct “precise, intelligence-led operations” in order to neutralise terrorists and dismantle “support cells” in the Union Territory.
The Unified HQ is the high command of security and intelligence operating in J&K. This was the first UHQ meeting held in the UT since the launch of Operation Sindoor by India. Tuesday’s meeting was held at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar.
Sources told The Tribune that Sinha was briefed by top-rung officials about the existing security situation in J&K, including at the Line of Control (LoC) and international borders in the UT. Security has already been heightened across the UT after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 25 tourists and a local ‘ponywala’ was killed.
A J&K government spokesperson said L-G Sinha chaired the meeting to review the “current security scenario in the UT” and the security arrangements for the annual Amarnath Yatra.
Officials said meeting was attended by Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Shri Nalin aPrabhat, GoC 15 Corps Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, GoC 16 Corps Lt Gen P K Mishra, and other top officials of the armed forces, CAPFs, J&K Police, intelligence agencies and civil administration.
According to the spokesperson, the L-G congratulated the armed forces, security agencies and police for Operation Sindoor and successfully neutralising the terrorists in the past few days.
Six terrorists affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed in two gun battles with security forces in South Kashmir last week. Security forces said both the operations dealt a huge blow to the terror outfits in the Valley.
Officials on Tuesday said the L-G directed all security agencies for precise, intelligence-led operations to neutralise terrorists and dismantle the support cells.
“He discussed the key strategies and broader counter-terrorism approaches for security and intelligence agencies to achieve the goal of terror-free J&K,” the spokesperson said.
Officials said the L-G also reviewed the security preparedness for Amarnath Yatra, scheduled from July 3 to August 9. “He directed the senior officials of armed forces, CAPFs, intelligence agencies and J&K Police to take the necessary action to ensure safe and peaceful sacred pilgrimage,” the spokesperson added.
