J&K Police epitome of duty, selfless service, says L-G Sinha

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said that the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s foremost commitment lies in their duty, whether it is fighting terrorism, enforcing laws, investigating crimes, or responding to natural calamities.

Sinha was speaking while paying homage to police martyrs on Police Commemoration Day at the Police Memorial in Zewan, Srinagar.

“The J&K Police is an epitome of duty, discipline, loyalty and selfless service. Our brave personnel have always prioritised the nation’s development and the lives of fellow citizens above their own,” Sinha said.

“They have kept the Tricolour flying high even at the cost of their own lives,” he added, expressing gratitude to police personnel and their families for keeping citizens safe and upholding the rule of law.

Sinha said the deep love for the Tricolour drives J&K Police personnel to serve the motherland with devotion and make supreme sacrifices. “The glorious legacy of our police personnel lives on and their supreme sacrifices inspire future generations to serve and uphold the values of our great country. J&K Police must always be ready to eliminate terrorist threats,” he added.

He called upon the five pillars of the criminal justice system—police, prosecution, judiciary, forensics and prisons—to work together to ensure justice for all. The L-G also emphasised adopting innovation and smart technology to strengthen policing and respond effectively to new crime trends, drug trafficking, and false narratives.

Reaffirming his commitment to police welfare, Sinha said that numerous programmes are in place to ensure that the families of martyrs live with comfort and dignity.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also paid homage to the martyrs, accompanied by ministers Sakina Itoo and Javid Ahmad Dar and Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani. The Chief Minister laid floral tributes at the memorial and later visited a blood donation camp organised as part of the commemoration, where he interacted with volunteers and appreciated their humanitarian spirit.
