Jammu, August 14
In a major decision to provide relief to students affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, the Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday announced a 30 per cent syllabus cut for students appearing in Class X and Class XII board examinations this year.
The announcement was made by the Principal Secretary, School Education Department, J&K, Asgar Hassan Samoon on Twitter.
“Syllabus for 10+2 reduced to 70 per cent in JK. This also applies for 10th class syllabus for exams,” he tweeted in two separate tweets.
Highly placed sources in the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) told The Tribune that the board officials had recommended to the Administrative Council for providing an option to the students of Class XII and Class X to attempt only 60 or 70 per cent questions during this year’s annual examinations in view of the academic loss due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The decision will definitely help students to a great extent as the closure of schools due to extended lockdowns has badly affected their studies,” a senior officer of the JKBOSE said.
On March 11, the Union Territory Administration had ordered closure of all educational institutions, including schools, colleges and universities, for all teaching and normal class work following outbreak of coronavirus. No decision has been taken on the reopening of schools.
