J&K school board introduces history of erstwhile state in new textbooks

For students studying in the educational institutes (both government and private) in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, who are not much aware about the history of erstwhile J&K state will now get a chance to know the same. The J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has changed/revised the textbooks, syllabi andcourses of study.

It is a brilliant step by the JKBOSE to include the history of the erstwhile J&K state in textbooks as I am sure many students like me are not much aware of its topography, political leadership and rulers. It will definitely benefit schoolchildren. — Pankaj, student

Director Academics, JKBOSE, Farooq Ahmad Peer informed that major changes had been made in the textbooks of social science from Class VI to X. “There is inclusion of complete history of erstwhile J&K state. “Maximum syllabus in these textbooks is according to the guidelines of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT),” Peer said.

He further said the study from the changes/revised textbooks/syllabus/courses of study will be in practice from the academic session November-December 2019 in case of Kashmir division/Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division/Union Territory of Ladakh.

The question papers for regular/fresh private candidates who have to appear in the annual session scheduled to be held in October-November 2019 in the Winter Zone areas and in the annual examination slated to be held in February-March 2021 in the Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division will be set from the revised/changed syllabi and courses of studies.

In case of the Summer Zone areas of Jammu Province, the revised editions/titles and syllabi will be applicable to the Summer Zone areasof Jammu Province from ensuring academic session March-April 2020-21.
