New Delhi, August 5
The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) today said the situation in Jammu and Kashmir had worsened since the abrogation of Article 370 on this day two years ago and their fight for the legitimate rights of the people would continue.
PAGD constituents National Conference, PDP, CPM and Awami National Conference met in Srinagar today to express concern over the situation in the UT and resolved to forge ahead with their struggle.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, PAGD spokesperson MY Tarigami said, “The alliance has reiterated its resolve to continue the struggle for the restoration of legitimate rights of the people of J&K.”
“Despite tall claims of the government, the situation since August 5, 2019, is worsening day by day,” Tarigami said.
NC chief Farooq Abdullah also slammed the August 5, 2019, decisions including the bifurcation of J&K into two UTs, as “unilateral, unconstitutional and undemocratic”. “Our stand on these decisions will never change and we will keep up with our struggle for the restoration of J&K people’s abridged constitutional and democratic rights. August 5 decisions are a lethal assault on the country’s secular visage, pluralistic and asymmetrical federalism and violation of sovereign promises made by the country to the people of J&K and Ladakh,” he said.
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said no words or pictures were enough to depict the pain, torment and upheaval inflicted upon J&K on this black day two years ago. Congress veteran P Chidambaram expressed solidarity with the people of J&K and said “this day (August 5) two years ago a (un)constitutional coup was executed in J&K”.
