J&K’s development directly linked with growth of youth: L-G Sinha

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that the growth of Jammu and Kashmir is directly linked with the growth of its youth. He was speaking at the felicitation ceremony of the Abacus Learning of Higher Arithmetic (ALOHA) State-Level Arithmetic Operations Contest at the University of Kashmir, Srinagar.

“Growth of J&K is directly linked with the growth of youth. They have a mission of transforming J&K and the nation. With resolve and dedication, they can complete this mission. We will ensure they have the right environment to become the most talented scholars, scientists and innovators,” the L-G remarked.

The competition saw the participation of more than 1,500 students from across the Union Territory.

“Arithmetic operations are not merely numerical calculations. They are the foundation of skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking and reasoning. They have far-reaching implications and drive young minds towards innovation, science and technology. It also serves as a reminder to teachers that the ultimate purpose of education is not the pursuit of marks, certificates or accolades, but the responsibility of building the nation’s future,” the L-G added.

Calling upon the younger generation to chart their own path, the L-G urged them to make conscious choices to achieve new goals.

“In an unpredictable world, innovation can’t be achieved by following the beaten track. The young generation should be more entrepreneurial, adventurous and creative, and follow an outside-of-the-box approach,” he said.

The L-G also called for collective efforts to transform school campuses into hubs of curiosity and innovation. He said education should become a medium for independent research and ideas, with classrooms serving as launchpads for dreams and aspirations.

The event was attended by Prof Nilofer Khan, vice-chancellor, University of Kashmir; Loh Mun Sung, founder, ALOHA International; Kiran Motwani, director, ALOHA International; Mubashir Aslam Wafai, director, ALOHA J&K; senior officials from the police and civil administration; heads of educational institutions; teachers and students.
