JMC removes gensets installed by banks

In a major step against violation of municipal rules by the government-owned banks, the anti-encroachment wing of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Friday removed gensets installed on road by Punjab National Bank and J&K Bank branch at Bakshi Nagar.

The corporation has warned all private, public institutions and government departments not to use public space for installing infrastructure, especially power gensets, which are operated on roads and lanes where braches have been opened.

An enforcement team of the Municipal Corporation led by Joint Commissioner (Administration), Ashish Kumar Gupta and headed by Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), Prem Singh Chib supervised the removal of gensets citing public nuisance to pedestrian and traffic.

“The JMC has been repeatedly issuing advisories to all commercial establishments through public notice to remove illegal encroachments, structures from all lane, bylanes and pedestrian ways in Jammu city to minimize traffic jam and ease movement of the pedestrians”, says a press statement.

The corporation has asked people for immediate clearing of all public path ways of the city from all kind of illegal structures and fixtures both movable and immovable.

Meanwhile, in another operation, the corporation today sealed an illegally constructed shop at Rehari Colony. One shop constructed by Subash Gupta near Baby Caterer was sealed for fixing iron shutter without obtaining proper permission from the Jammu Municipal Corporation under the J&K Control of Building Operation Act, 1988.

“On the complaints of residents, the structures were seized. It was converted from residential to commercial without the permission of the Municipal Corporation and was causing traffic hazard in the vicinity”, a press note said.
