Jammu, March 6

Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, a former Supreme Court judge, will head the Delimitation Commission for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

An official order issued on Friday evening by the Union Law and Justice Department said the Centre had constituted the commission for the delimitation of Assembly and parliamentary constituencies in J&K and the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland.

Approached by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora had on February 17 nominated Sushil Chandra, Election Commissioner, as its nominee to the proposed J&K delimitation panel.

Assembly elections will be held in J&K only after the panel submits its

recommendations.

Chandra and respective Election Commissioners of the UT of J&K and states would be members of the panel. The commission will undertake delimitation in the UT of J&K in accordance with the J&K Reorganisation Act and the Delimitation Act. — TNS
