Kashmir Police on Thursday busted a major narcotics-terror module, arresting three persons and seizing 21kg heroin and Rs 1.34 crore cash.

“On reliable information, Handwara Police have busted a Pakistan sponsored narco terror module and arrested three terrorist associates of proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba,” a police spokesperson said.

He said incriminating materials including Rs 1.34 crore cash and 21kg heroin worth Rs 100 crore were recovered from their possession. A cash counting machine was also recovered.

He said the module was connected with Pakistan-based terror handlers and was involved in drug trade and giving financial assistance to active terrorists of LeT. The recoveries also exposed the connection between drug dealers and terrorists, he said.

The arrested have been identified as Ab Moomin Peer, son of late Mohd Ashraf Peer, Islam Ul Haq Peer, son of Mohd Ashraf Peer of Waskura Handwara, and Syed Iftikhar Indrabi, son of Syed Ateequlla Indrabi of Laribal Rajwar Handwara in Kupwara District.

Police said others have also been identified and efforts are being taken to arrest them.

The module was working for LeT to strengthen their activities in the Valley and were misguiding and motivating the local youth of the Valley to join the militant ranks, the spokesperson said.

A case has been registered at Police Station Handwara. Police said a special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted to ascertain the details of the accused persons’ ties with terrorist outfits, radicals, smugglers and other anti-national elements.
