Khadi panel to train 500 youth before Gandhi Jayanti

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and Union Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) has started a campaign to provide training to 500 persons in various traditional crafts of the Valley before Gandhi Jayanti.

A KVIC spokesman said they had already started 12 training courses in various crafts.

“The KVIC, Pampore, has started these training courses, which include computer training at Chiwdara Budgam, tilla embroidery at Kathipora, Baramulla, and cutting and tailoring at Kazipora, Baramulla,” the spokesman said.

He said training in “kani shawl” weaving was started at Checkshera, while another training programme in tilla embroidery was held in the Dusso area of Pulwama district.

SP Khandelwal, State Director, KVIC, J&K, said the KVIC was the national nodal agency for the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), under which financial assistance with 35 per cent subsidy was provided after imparting training in various crafts.
