Kishtwar police arrest peddler with contraband
The police in Kishtwar arrested a drug peddler and recovered approximately 11 grams of heroin-like substance in a significant step against the drug menace. Police termed this as “achieved another success in its ongoing fight against the drug menace.”
According to a police statement, a checkpoint was established by the Kishtwar Police team at Link Road, Malipeth Lower Kishtwar, where the accused was apprehended. During the search, around 11 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession, the police said.
The arrested individual has been identified as Shoukat Ali, a resident of Dhammi, Tehsil Nagrota, District Jammu, currently residing near Islamia Faridia School in Kishtwar. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) and the investigation is ongoing, the police confirmed.
SSP Kishtwar Javaid Iqbal Mir has directed the investigating officer to examine both the forward and backward supply links of the accused to identify the broader supply chain and other possible associates. Additionally, he instructed the officer to scrutinize the accused’s bank statements and financial transactions to trace the origins and beneficiaries of the illicit trade.
Mir reiterated that Kishtwar Police “remains steadfast in its mission to eradicate drug safeguard the youth from falling into the trap of such illicit activities.” He emphasized the role of public cooperation in this effort and urged citizens to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
