The Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Ladakh, Brigadier BD Mishra (Retd), chaired a meeting at the secretariat to discuss a new training module introduced by the Handicraft and Handloom Department aimed at benefiting craftsmen, artisans and newcomers to the field.

During the meeting, the L-G emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards in training while ensuring that individuals who have already completed training are not subjected to redundant sessions. He also stressed the necessity of conducting both outcome and impact assessments to measure the effectiveness of the training programmes. The L-G further advocated for the implementation of the ‘One District One Product’ initiative, aimed at boosting local craftsmanship.

Additionally, the L-G highlighted the need to assess the employability and earning capacity of those who undergo or have completed training, pushing for the promotion of the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative. He also stressed the importance of ensuring that products are not only marketable but also connected to the ‘Brand Ladakh’, while maintaining high standards.

In response, Principal Secretary Sanjeev Khirwar assured that the duration would be re-evaluated in consultation with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
