Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday flagged off the Tiranga Yatra from Dal Lake in Srinagar and participated in a walkathon to the Botanical Garden as part of the ongoing Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
“Tiranga is my dharma. Tiranga is my strength. Tiranga is my heartbeat,” the L-G said, addressing a large gathering of citizens and youth. He paid heartfelt tributes to the bravehearts and freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the dignity and glory of the National Flag.
“Thousands have joined today to honour the Tricolour – the symbol of our unity, pride, and shared national identity. This is a day to celebrate our great nation, but also a moment for reflection. We must renew our commitment to build a prosperous, modern Jammu and Kashmir on the foundation of the sacrifices made by our soldiers, CAPFs and police personnel,” Sinha said.
The L-G emphasised that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a transformative era of inclusive development. “With self-confidence and faith, the people of J&K are shaping their own destiny. Generations-old aspirations are finally being fulfilled,” he added.
Expressing gratitude for the enthusiastic participation in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, Sinha said, “From the banks of the Jhelum to the Chenab, and from the Pir Panjal to Harmukh, the skies of Jammu and Kashmir are lit with the Tricolour. The chant of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ echoes in every corner. A new generation has emerged, dedicated to the honour of the nation, with one resolve — to live and die for Maa Bharti.”
Highlighting the widespread patriotic fervour, the L-G praised initiatives like ‘Weaves & Threads’ activities in schools and colleges, Tiranga Melas, concerts, and bike rallies that have brought communities together and spread the message of peace and national unity. He appealed to all sections of society, especially the youth, to participate actively in the third phase of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign beginning August 13.
Earlier, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, cabinet ministers, and senior officials also joined the Tiranga Yatra.
Later, Sinha participated in the ‘Pedal for Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ rally organised by the Border Security Force ahead of the 79th Independence Day celebrations. He felicitated 79 cyclists — including 40 local youths and 39 BSF personnel — for their participation in the event.
Paying tributes to those killed in the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, the L-G said that justice had been delivered through Operation Mahadev and Operation Sindoor. “If the terrorist state of Pakistan spills innocent blood, it will pay a heavy price,” he warned.
Commending the armed forces and J&K Police for their swift and decisive action, he said they had avenged the barbaric attack and safeguarded the nation’s honour. He also urged the public to remain vigilant against divisive elements attempting to disrupt peace and social harmony in the Union Territory.
