Student associations here today demanded an apology from Member of Parliament (MP) Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal over the alleged physical assault on the All Zanskar Student Association (AZSA) president Lobzang Paldan by the MP’s PSO and Zanskar SHO.
The incident reportedly took place on July 29 when the MP was holding a meeting with government officials at the dak bungalow, Padum, Zanskar.
The AZSA president, Lobzang Paldan, in a press statement, alleged that he, along with members of the AZSA, went to meet the MP with a copy of a memorandum at the dak bungalow and after taking permission from the SHO, he entered the meeting hall. Seeing him at the meeting, the MP instructed the SHO to take him away. He alleged that the SHO and the PSO to the MP physically abused him in front of those present at the place, causing him embarrassment and anguish.
Meanwhile, the MP denied the allegation against him and said that he had never abused the student president.
“The student union leader broke the protocol and appeared at the official meeting. I asked him that I will listen to him outside the meeting, but he insisted to talk in front of all government officials. He started misbehaving and spoke rudely. I understand he is young and mistakes do happen. I tried to make him understand, but he refused to listen to me. So, I asked him to get out and asked my PSO to take him out, but he continued to misbehave with everyone” said the MP.
