Ladakh sees new case, UT tally 14

The Health Dept has kept surveillance on 2,151 persons for 28 days while 1,294 have completed their mandatory quarantine of 14 days.

Leh, April 2

One more person, from Sanjak village in Chiktan block of Kargil District, Ladakh, tested positive for Covid on Thursday. With this, the total number of positive cases in the UT has risen to 14, including the three patients who have got cured and were discharged from the hospital.

The patient came in contact with a person of Kargil district who had a history of travel to Iran. The new case has already been quarantined in the hospital.

Ladakh spokesperson and Commissioner Secretary (health) Rigzin Samphel said as soon as the report of his sample was received on Wednesday night, the SDM and Block Medical Officer of Shakar Chiktan rushed to the village to trace his contacts.

Samphel further said the Health Department had also got information that the patient had visited Achinathang village in Leh before he reached the Kargil hospital and a team of officers had been sent there to study the situation. They would decide on bringing Sanjak and Achinathang under containment zone after the report of the chief medical officer of both districts.

The sample of the person whom he remained in contact with him has also been sent for confirmation.

Meanwhile, the sample of the first patient in Leh District has reported negative for the first time and has been resent for confirmation.

The media bulletin for Covid in Ladakh stated that 78 persons with symptomatic contacts are placed in hospital, including 40 from Leh and 38 from Kargil.

It also states that the Health Department had kept surveillance on 2,151 persons for 28 days. As many as 1,294 more have completed their mandatory quarantine of 14 days on Thursday.
