The Union Territory of Ladakh is participating in archery and boxing in the upcoming Third Khelo India Youth Games 2020 in Guwahati, Assam, scheduled to start from January 10 to 22.

Two sportspersons are representing the Union Territory Ladakh in the Khelo IndiaYouth Games in archery and five in boxing.

TseringTashi, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Leh, said, ” A total of 24 sportspersons of Leh district have registered for the upcoming Khelo India Youth Games 2020. However, only seven sportspersons have been selected.”

He further said, “At present, we have national or state-level sportspersons in boxing, table tennis and archery and the tally of national players will soon increase with the establishment of the unit of the Sports Authority of India, which is in the pipeline.”

The District Sports And Youth Services Department, Leh, has also arranged for the expenses, accommodation, and other traveling expenses. The sportsmen will be travelling before the scheduled date due to lack of other means of transport.

Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal met the participating team headed by TseringTashi and Zonal Physical Officer, Leh, Abid Ali and wished them success.

Wangyal expressed hope that the team would excel in the tournament and bring laurels to Ladakh. Motivating the players he said, “Winning and losing is part of the game but more important is the team work and discipline that you learn during such sporting events.”
