An unidentified militant was killed in operation in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. The militant was killed in a joint operation that was launched by security forces at around 3.45 pm on input about militants’ presence near Molu Chitragam Shopian.

While the identity of the slain is not known, sources said he was a newly-recruited militant.

In the second gunfight of the day, two militants were killed in an operation at Ganawpora Kralgund in Handwara sub-district of north Kashmir.

The gunfight erupted late evening in an orchard when joint teams of forces cordoned the area. The operation is over.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar identified one of the slain as Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Naseer-u-din Lone, who was involved in the killing of at least six CRPF men in two attacks in north Kashmir.

“He was involved in killing of three CRPF jawans at Sopore on April 18 and 3 more CRPF jawans at Handwara on May 4,” Kumar said.
