Security forces have arrested a suspected militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba and his associate close to the Line of Control in Uri sector of Baramulla district.
Police said the two were arrested by a joint team of forces when they were moving in suspicious circumstances.
“There was an input from reliable sources about the movement of some terrorists in the general area Uri and consequently, various nakas (checking points) were set on multiple points by joint forces,” a police officer said in north Kashmir. “At one such naka at NS Bridge Uri two suspected persons were coming from Saidapora towards Uri. On seeing the checking party, they tried to flee away from the spot in a suspicious manner..”
The two were later identified by police as Zubair Ahmad Tantry alias Abu Bakar a resident of Baharampora Sopore, an active militant of LeT, and his associate as Bilal Ahmad Rather of Sahura Uri.
“On their personal search, a huge catch of arms and ammunition and other incriminating material was recovered. A case has been registered under various provisions of the Indian Arms Act, Indian Explosives Act and Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act in Police Station Uri and investigation has been started,” he added.
Sources said Tantry had joined militant ranks recently and was planning to ex-filtrate to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
