Lecture on rural tourism

Vivek Sharma, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, delivered a lecture on the theme ‘Role of Rural Tourism in Sustainable Rural Development in India’ at the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, University of Mumbai. Sharma in his address to MPhil and PhD research scholars of rural development said rural tourism was nature-based tourism that had the potential to develop rural India. He also highlighted the potential of rural tourism as the main driver of economic growth and employment generation to address rural poverty, empowerment of rural women and strengthening the social and economic status.

Training programme

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kathua, working under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, organised a one-day in-service training programme for the field functionaries of the Department of Agriculture, Kathua on the ‘Role and Importance of Social Media in Agricultural Extension’. Around 17 agricultural extensions assistants participated in the programme. It was organised under the overall guidance of Dr KS Risam, Vice Chancellor and Director, Extension, SKUAST-Jammu. Vishal Mahajan, senior scientist, highlighted the different activities carried out for the farming community. Berjesh Ajrawat, senior extension specialist, sensitised participants about the importance of information and communication technologies and other platforms available on the social media.

Technical festival at SMVDU

The annual technical festival ‘Titiksha 2020’ and the 6th International Conference on ‘Recent Trends and Advancements in Engineering and Technology’, was inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. The three-day technical festival will feature technical events like robo war, hydraulic arm, smash hit, pac-bot, robo soccer, electromania and cultural performances. Rakesh Jha, Dean, R&D and coordinator of Titiksha, welcomed the delegates and presented the theme of the conference. More than 289 abstracts from nine countries and 18 states were received of which 219 abstracts were shortlisted.

Awareness programme at JU

An awareness programme on voluntary blood donation was held at the University of Jammu. The programme was organised by Live For Others-Being Helpful Organisation, which is a team of young volunteers headed by Vikas Pandita and Vivek Parihar that works for the betterment of society. A lecture was delivered by Vivek Parihar, who is the co-founder of the organisation. Parihar while addressing the gathering of young volunteers said, “Blood transfusion saves lives and improves health, but many patients requiring transfusion do not have timely access to safe blood”.

College celebrates silver jubilee

The Vivekananda College of Education celebrated its silver jubilee. The chief guest on the occasion was Indresh Kumar, member, Akhil Bhartiya Karyakarini, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Prof Rajnikant, Controller of Examinations, University of Jammu, was the guest of honour. Lal Chand, chairman, J&K Environment Impact Assessment Authority, presided over the function.
