Jammu/Leh, May 4
A day after BJP Ladakh president Chering Dorjay resigned, the incumbent Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of BJP-led Leh Council, Gyal P Wangyal, and executive councillors on Monday staged a sit-in protest outside Raj Niwas in Ladakh for “delay in evacuation of stranded people of Ladakh from various parts of the country”.
The CEC was accompanied by Deputy Chairman, Leh Council, Tsering Sangdup and Executive councillors, Phunchok Stanzin, Konchok Stanzin and Mumtaz Hussain.
The recently-appointed BJP UT chief had resigned from his political position in protest against the alleged failure of the UT Administration to evacuate the stranded people to Ladakh.
Wangyal said, “The issues of stranded people have been raised on several occasions with the Lt-Governor but no concrete action has been taken, despite assurances. Stranded people’s desperate calls have compelled us to take such stance”.
Later, Wangyal after his meeting with the Lt-Governor said, “We have submitted three demands for immediate consideration for an early evacuation. The first demand is either grant permission to utilise the funds of the LAHDC or sanction funds. The second demand is that the UT Administration should coordinate with other host states during the movement of stranded people with proper loading and boarding and third is to airlift all those patients and elderly people who cannot travel long distance by road”.
