Leh Deputy Commissioner (DC) Santosh Sukhdeve, chaired a meeting to discuss the upcoming observance of Road Safety Month in the district, a campaign aimed at raising awareness about road safety and encouraging responsible driving practices.

The inauguration of Road Safety Month is scheduled for Monday in Leh district, followed by a separate inauguration on Tuesday in its subdivisions.

During the meeting, ARTO Leh, Inzar Ahmad, provided a comprehensive briefing on the planned activities for the month. These include various awareness programs, enforcement drives and community engagement initiatives, all designed to educate the public about traffic rules and accident prevention.

DC Leh emphasised that the main objective of Road Safety Month is to enhance public awareness about road safety and highlight the importance of adhering to traffic rules. He stressed that coordinated efforts from all stakeholders, including government agencies, law enforcement, transport officials and the public, are essential to make the roads safer.

He also underscored the crucial role of civic society in fostering a culture of responsible road behaviour. Encouraging community participation, he urged citizens to actively contribute to promote road safety.

In addition to awareness campaigns, the Deputy Commissioner pointed out the need for improved road infrastructure, better traffic management and a heightened sense of civic responsibility to create a safer and more organised traffic system. By working together, he said, the district can significantly reduce road accidents and ensure a safer environment for all road users.
