Leopard caught in Udhampur village

Jammu, February 28

The Wildlife Department on Wednesday captured a leopard who had strayed in a habituated area in Sear Bala village of Ghordi block in Udhampur.

A leopard was spotted by the locals, who immediately informed the Wildlife Department. A team led by Rakesh Sharma, Range Officer (Wildlife), Udhampur, promptly reached the location with the necessary equipment.

The team, along with local police assistance, cordoned off the area to prevent chaos and ensure public safety. “The operation proved successful, and the wild animal, identified as an 18-20 month old female leopard (Panthera pardus), was safely tranquilized,” an official said.

The leopard was transported to the veterinary centre in Udhampur. “The animal is likely to be transferred to Jammu depending on its health condition,” the official said.
