Leh, December 1
A joint forum of all elected representatives of Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh Union Territory was held by Lieutenant-Governor RK Mathur at Leh.
It was attended by Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC-led all-executive councillors and councillors, presidents of Municipal Committees of Leh and Kargil towns, newly-elected chairmen of Block Development Council and sarpanches of the twins districts.
It was a first such gathering of elected representatives of both districts at a common platform after Ladakh became a UT, where they discussed developmental issues and aspirations of both districts with the Lieutenant-Governor.
The forum received a huge response, which witnessed a large number of participants from both Kargil and Leh districts.
Lieutenant-Governor RK Mathur apprised the elected representatives that the forum was held to get aware of the problems and issues and start action on important government decisions at the district, block and panchayat levels. He said the forum was aimed at evolving a roadmap to start appropriate developmental schemes for Ladakh.
The LG urged to set aside any feeling about comparison between Leh and Kargil, as the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah is non-discriminatory and focuses purely on the fulfilment of needs of both districts.
Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC, Leh and Kargil, Gyal P Wangyal and Feroze Ahmed Khan, MP, Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Advisor to LG Umang Narula, Commissioner Secretary Ladakh Rigzin Samphel and Divisional Commissioner Saugat Biswas also addressed the forum.
