Sunil Sharma, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, called upon the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and discussed key developmental and security related issues of J&K.
A statement posted by Sharma, who is a senior BJP leader, on X said during the meeting with the Defence Minister, he discussed vital infrastructure and security-related concerns of the region.
Rajnath Singh, while patiently listening to all the issues put forth by Sunil Sharma, assured him of all possible measures in a timely manner.
The statement said while lauding the infrastructure development, peace initiatives and security related measures of the Modi government, Sharma requested for additional boost to economic development, employment, security and border area development in Jammu and Kashmir.
“In view of the paramount strategic importance of the region, I requested more stringent security measures to intercept and restrain any mischief from across the border,” he said.
Regarding Kishtwar region, Sharma raised the issue of completion of the road from Tourist Reception Centre to Sarkoot Mandir, which is awaiting clearance from the Army. He also pointed out that the land near Kishtwar helipad, which belongs to villagers from Matta, Zellna and nearby areas, is currently being used by the Army on a rental basis. He said that the Army should either formally acquire the land or return it to its rightful owners.
