Srinagar, February 29
Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah said the upcoming elections are crucial for the identity, job security and land rights of J&K. He urged the people to channel “their discontent into constructive action during the forthcoming general elections”.
Dr Abdullah said the significance of the upcoming polls is immense as it is an opportunity for the people to express their stance against the abrogation of Article 370. “The issues at hand are fundamental; they concern our pride, our distinctive identity, our land and employment rights, and our historical heritage,” he said while talking to workers at the party headquarters.
“We have to work on multiple fronts to secure our unique identity and character. Forthcoming elections offer us a unique chance of showing our detestation for the actions which BJP unilaterally undertook on 5th of August, 2019,” Dr Abdullah said.
“We are facing enormous challenges, yet I am confident our fortitude and resilience will see us through. We have to intensify our public outreach programme and acquaint people about the systematic assault the incumbent administration has inflicted on democracy and the institutions that are its essential pillars,” Dr Abdullah said.
“We have always been proud of how diverse religions, castes and ethnicities have co-existed and participated in building our beautiful state,” he said.
“These days they are trying to create differences between us based on region, religion and ethnicity. We have to remain cautious, our workers have their tasks cut out as responsible citizens of J&K,” he said.
