A man allegedly killed his mother-in-law and injured his wife and her sister over some dispute in Udhampur district late on Sunday evening.

The incident took place at Kiya village in Ramnagar when the accused Suresh Kumar attacked his mother-in-law Shanti Devi with an axe at her home. He also injured his wife Lalita Devi and sister-in-law Anju Devi and fled from the scene of crime.

However, Udhampur Police solved the case within 12 hours, with the arrest of the accused.

A police official informed that soon after the incident was reported to the police, an FIR under Sections 103, 109, 331(6) BNS was registered at Ramnagar police station and investigation started. He said the police team immediately rushed to the spot.

While Shanti Devi was declared brought dead at a hospital by the doctors, the two other women were referred to district hospital Udhampur for specialized treatment, the official said.

“During investigation, police team swiftly carried out rigorous searches in Ramnagar and adjoining areas and arrested the accused involved in this crime. Further investigation in the case is going on,” the official said.
