In a significant move towards processing of school-level data on regular basis it is now mandatory for all government as well as private schools functioning within Jammu division to get the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) code.

All schools functioning within Jammu division, including government, private, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Army Schools, schools run by NGOs or any other management have been directed to get the UDISE code and to upload complete information with respect of the schools on the Union HRD Ministry portal UDISE+ by or before June 10, 2020.

Sources said the ministry has provided the platform UDISE+ for processing of school-level data on regular basis but it was observed by the Directorate of School Education, Jammu, that some schools (recognised/unrecognised) have failed to upload information on UDISE+ data capture formats despite instructions being issued time to time.

As a result, the School Education Department is unable to provide

correct position with regard to key indicators used for educational

planning to achieve the desired goals under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

“Non-compliance on part of any school management shall invite strict action under rules. Moreover, all such schools who have not registered on the UDISE+ yet and those awaiting UDISE+ code generation are advised to get in touch with Zonal Education Officers concerned immediately, failing which school managements shall be held responsible for the consequences thereof,” a circular said.

“Uploading of data is going on, but schools does not fill accurate details. This is also one of the reasons that our national ranking is low on many parameters, even though J&K is not as bad as some other states. We are trying our best,” said Anuradha Gupta, Director, School Education, Jammu.

“I issued the circular because the UDISE data uploading is going on in the whole country and our pace is slow. Data is also not accurate. There may be many schools which are not having the UDISE code,” she added.
