The Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr Devansh Yadav, on Thursday toured several wards to assess the damage caused by recent torrential rains. The downpour inundated low-lying areas, leaving homes and streets submerged under floodwater and debris.
Dr Yadav visited Rajendra Nagar, Canal Head, the area around Peerkho Temple, Rajiv Nagar University area and Gujjar Nagar near the Tawi River. He interacted with residents, heard their grievances and assured prompt restoration of civic amenities.
Large quantities of mud and silt have accumulated inside houses. Acknowledging the urgency, Dr Yadav directed officials to complete cleaning and restoration within 48 hours. “No household should be left unattended. The safety and well-being of citizens remain the top priority of the Corporation,” he said.
To speed up relief work, JMC has increased manpower and deployed additional machinery, including earthmovers, suction machines and dumpers. Sanitation teams have been mobilised on a war footing to clear debris, unclog drains and restore basic amenities.
Free water tanker services have also been introduced across Jammu city to ensure uninterrupted supply. “The Jammu Municipal Corporation is committed to providing swift relief to every affected household,” Dr Yadav added.
