Beginning Monday, many parts of Jammu and Kashmir will experience a severe heatwave, as observed by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
The heatwave will be witnessed in isolated parts of both the regions of Kashmir and Jammu. People have been asked to be aware of the severe heat during these days.
As per the MeT centre at Srinagar, the maximum day temperature has remained (3-6℃) above normal in most parts of Kashmir division and (2-4℃) above normal in most parts of Jammu. The maximum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 33.3°C.
Similarly, minimum night temperature has remained (2-4℃) above normal in most parts of Kashmir division and (1-5℃) above normal in many parts of Jammu division. Lowest minimum temperature was observed at Pahalgam (9.5℃) in Kashmir division and Banihal (14.5℃) in Jammu division.
The maximum temperature in Jammu was recorded at 44.3°C.
The region is witnessing a brutal heat-wave that is accompanied by unscheduled power cuts in different areas of the region.
The weather stations in Srinagar recorded a temperature of 32°C which is above normal. Shopian recorded a maximum temperature of 32.1°C while Sonamarg recorded the temperature of 25.3°C.
According to the MeT advisory, both Jammu and Srinagar will experience a clear to partially cloudy sky on Tuesday. While the weather will remain dry till June 12, there is a possibility of scattered rainfall in some parts of the UT from June 13.
