Multi-layered security in place ahead of R-Day in Kashmir
Security has been heightened across Kashmir ahead of Republic Day, which will be celebrated nationwide on Sunday. Officials have confirmed that comprehensive measures are in place to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations, particularly in Srinagar, where the main event will be held at Bakshi Stadium.
Jammu and Kashmir’s Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary will preside over the function at the stadium and unfurl the tricolour.
A senior official stated that security arrangements have been reinforced across all districts in the Valley. Areas designated for Republic Day celebrations have been sanitised, and round-the-clock vigilance is being maintained.
Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vidhi Kumar Birdi assured on Friday that a multi-layered security system is in place and all necessary steps have been taken to ensure smooth proceedings.
This year’s Republic Day marks the first such celebration following the establishment of an elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of its special status in 2019.
In Jammu, the Union Territory’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, will preside over the main function, while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will serve as the chief guest.
Additionally, five cabinet ministers will oversee celebrations in various district headquarters. Deputy CM Choudhary will preside over the event in Srinagar, Sakeena Itoo in Anantnag, Javed Ahmad Rana in Udhampur, Javid Ahmad Dar in Baramulla and Satish Sharma in Kathua.
On Friday, a full-dress rehearsal was conducted across all districts of Kashmir. The event featured vibrant, theme-based cultural performances by students and artistes, adding a festive touch to the Republic Day celebrations.
