In the first National Lok Adalat of the year held in Leh and Kargil district of Ladakh, 532 cases were amicable settled and an amount of Rs 1.53 crore was paid as compensation.
An official said, “Out of the total 724 cases taken up by 11 Benches, 532 cases were amicably settled and disposed off involving settlement an amount of Rs 1,53,52,431 paid as compensation in cases like motor accident claims, civil, criminal, labour disputes, electricity and land acquisition, family matters, cheque dishonour and bank recovery.”
Ladakh Legal Services Authority, under the leadership of Justice Tashi Rabstan, Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Ladakh (Patron-in-Chief), Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Chairman, Ladakh Legal Services Authority, organised the first National Lok Adalat of the current calendar year.
The official informed that to facilitate maximum settlements of disputes, pre-lok adalat sittings and pre-counselling sessions were organized well before the date of National Lok Adalat so that the parties get ample opportunity to engage in dialogue with their opponents to arrive at a consensus to resolve the dispute permanently. “Besides, virtual meetings were also conducted to sensitise the stakeholders, officers of legal services institutions, panel lawyers and others involved in strengthening alternate dispute resolution mechanisms, these sessions highlighted the importance of Lok Adalat and encouraged parties to take maximum advantage of this platform” the official said.
Manoj Parihar, member secretary, Ladakh Legal Services Authority, appreciated the efforts of all judicial officers, advocates, staff of the district, tehsil courts and legal services institutions, as well as the litigants, for their participation in the National Lok Adalat.
