NIA arrests 2 in LeM terror conspiracy case of Jammu

The anti-terror federal probe agency NIA today said it has arrested two accused persons – Md. Arman Ali and Mohd. Ehsanullah – in connection with a terror conspiracy case linked to Lashker-e-Mustafa (LeM), which was hatched in Jammu.

Officials in the NIA said 20-year-old Md. Arman Ali was arrested in Bihar and was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CGM) Saran in Bihar and was taken on transit remand to produce him before the NIA Special Court, Jammu. The other accused Mohd. Ehsanullah (23) was arrested from Jammu, they said.

The NIA officials said the investigation into the case revealed that both the accused were co-conspirators and were involved in the transportation of two separate consignments of illegal arms/ammunition from Bihar to Mohali and Ambala.

The weapons were later transported to the main accused in the case Hidayat Ullah Malik, self-declared commander-in-chief of LeM in Jammu and Kashmir, they added.

According to the officials, the case was originally registered on February 6, 2021, at Police Station Gangyal in Jammu in connection with a conspiracy hatched by members of LeM, an offshoot of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, to carry out terrorist activities in J&K with an intention to threaten the sovereignty, integrity and security of India.

They said the NIA was later handed over the probe in the case on March 2, 2021.
