New Delhi, November 22
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today carried out raids at multiple locations in Srinagar city in connection with the Jammu andKashmir (J&K) terror funding case and arrested prominent human rights activist Khurram Parvez.
NIA officials said the agency sleuths carried out searches at the residence of Parvez in the Sonwar area and office at Amira Kadal before taking him along for questioning to their office at Church Lane in Dalgate in Srinagar. The officials said the Parvez’ family had been handed over the arrest memo and would be taken to New Delhi tomorrow after receiving a transit remand by local special court.
In October 2020, NIA conducted the raids at several locations in the Valley, including Parvez’s residence and office. Parvez is the chairperson of the Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD) and the programme coordinator of JKCCS. He had lost his leg in a landmine blast while monitoring the 2004 Parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile, the officials confirmed that besides Parvez’s office and residence premises, NIA sleuths also raided a few other places in Srinagar. they were assisted by the J&K Police and the CRPF. — TNS
